The toughest question that faces every newbie dog owner is how to train a dog to be obedient and well behaved. Most people love dogs, but hesitate on owning one as a pet because they fear that they might not be able to train their pup properly or may have to hire an experienced pet trainer for this purpose which could prove to be very expensive.

The truth is, although it takes time and patience to train a new pup it is not actually a very difficult task. If you want to learn how to train a dog, all you need to do is first introduce consistency and patience in your own behavior. Dogs are very intelligent animals and learn very quickly from the behaviors they perceive.

The first and foremost step in learning how to train a dog is to teach your dog to respond to basic commands like “sit”, “stay” and appraisals like “good dog” and “bad dog”. You must reward the dog by saying good dog or something similar whenever your pet does a good job.

For the first few weeks you must try and keep the selection of words the same throughout. You may change your words once your dog has learnt to understand the tone of your voice, but it is very important to be absolutely consistent to begin with.

The second step in learning how to train your dog is to get it familiarized with its resting place. It could be a crate or a kennel. Both these training steps should in fact be practiced side by side. If you cannot afford to buy a kennel, you can always use an empty crate. However, you need to examine the crate thoroughly to check if there are any areas which could hurt the dog.

Secondly, you might want to place in some blankets to make it look dark and cozy just like a den.

The third step in learning how to train your dog is to teach your dog where to urinate. There is nothing worse than a pup urinating all over your house. This could be both dirty and dangerous. This training must also be started from the very first day of your dog’s arrival.

Dog separation anxiety is one of the most common syndromes that one can come across in their dogs. Dogs are like humans and they do seek love, affection and care and when they get these things in excess, they love it.

But, again what happens after you don’t spend much time with your dog for some reason? Have you ever thought of it? This situation develops dog separation anxiety which is the cause of dogs attaining destructive behavior.

Dog separation anxiety is thus a situation wherein dogs start behaving in an altogether different manner, like they start whining, barking and crying all day long, they often turn destructive, chewing furniture, and trying to escape. In a recent case, a dog literally chewed a glass window to escape, this could however be stopped if you take preventive actions and follow tips that can reduce the incidence and levy of separation anxiety.

Before beginning the treatment, one should first venture into the causes of it, so that they can gain deep information on what they ought to fix.

There are some causes of dog separation anxiety that should be browsed through before understanding the treatments and cures. Some of the causes are associated to the behavior and some to the environment the dogs live in.

Some dogs may fall prey to the syndrome because of the stress levels they face and some others fall prey to this anxiety because they have been separated from their mothers, while others may have been abandoned by their owners, resulting in shaken trust and confidence levels. Thus, understanding the root cause is important.

What can help? This is probably one of the prominent questions pet lovers are searching for. There are many separation anxiety cures that can help your dog live normally, some separation anxiety cures are:

Use Medication Therapies:

One can use medication therapies to help their dogs come out of this anxiety syndrome. Every dog is different and thus medication therapies should be implemented based on the severity of the condition.

These therapies can help dogs gain confidence back and thus ease the situation considerably well. Dogs that have severe anxiety problems are often given medication as their treatment. The most common medications include Fluoxetine and clomipramine.

Behavioral modification therapies:

Since the separation anxiety is a rigid task to cure, simple obedience training doesn’t really work (if the condition is not so severe). Behavior modification helps your dog to change his behavior when you are away.

Play method:

Helping your dog to exercise and keeping your dog busy with efficient training exercises will help to tire your dog, and a tired dog wants some time off to snooze. Practice this everyday and you can get rid of dog separation anxiety.

Dog separation anxiety cures are thus available in wide numbers and you can get rid of all those problems associated with separation anxiety. Following efficient methods can get rid of mental and physical problems.

Golden retrievers are one of the best pest dogs to have in your house. They are social friendly and loyal dogs. However, to enhance these qualities, you need to train them. Training is very important for the well being and development of any dog or puppy.

To begin training your golden retriever, you have to start with the basic commands that the dog can recognize easily. Some of the commands you can start with are:

Sit- your dog will learn to sit in place every time you give it this command.

Stay- the dog will learn to stop on its track every time you mention the word.

Heel- the dog will follow when you are walking.

Lie- the dog will lie on the ground.

The golden retriever is one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world. Always practice patience at the beginning of the training sessions. Don’t give up when the dog does not pick up on the first sessions. This is because they later catch on. You can use the dogs favorite treats in the training sessions. Reserve the tasty treats and only give them to the dog during training.

When training the dog how to sit a golden retriever, place the treat near the shoulders. Hold the treat firmly on your hands so that it is not snatched away. Repeat the word gently while pushing the dog’s button towards the ground. When the dog gets into position, shower it with praises and reward it with the treat. Repeat the process several times.

This helps the dog to associate sitting with the treats. From here you can move to lying. After the dog can sit comfortably, you can teach him or her to lie down. When the dog is sitting hold the delicious treats and move it close to the floor. When the dog reaches out for the treat, move it to the ground level near you. Once the dog lies down, praise it and give it the treats.

Repeat the process several times for the dog to grasp the concept. You can use the sit command for a while and introduce the lie command when the dog gets better at it. After this, you can command the dog to sit and lie until the time it performs them perfectly. From here, you can move to the heel command. This is one of the simplest commands that the dog can learn, as they love following their masters around.

Use a leash on the dog’s neck and have the treat on your right hand. The dog will automatically follow you. Always reward the dog after it has followed you for a few yards. Remove the leash on the dog to do it on its own. You can finish the training with the stay command.

Tell the dog to sit or lie in position and walk away for the pet. Don’t expect the dog to obey the first command but it will catch up after a few tries. When the dog has learnt the basic commands you can introduce other commands and tricks slowly.

This is where you can even teach it not to jump on people. These are some of the simple tricks you can use to train a golden retriever puppy or dog. Its always best to start when they are young so that is easier on you.

The dog gets his name from the appealing color of his coat. He is one of the best family pets because of his friendliness and loyalty to his owners. He is also easy to train owing to the fact that he is a rather intelligent dog breed. Taking care of this breed requires a little more attention than with most other dog breeds.

Understanding a few basics on how to groom the golden retriever is important in order to prevent a host of problems. It is an easy process to ensure cleanliness and prevent infections.

The process involves cleaning him as one would his own body. All areas should get attention – teeth, nails, eyes, ears as well as skin and cleaned in the appropriate way. Hence, the first thing one has to do is to get all the necessary equipment.

Although one has to brush his coat thoroughly, remember that the manner of doing this for a golden retriever differs from that of other breeds. His coat is very smooth and silky. It is also longer than that of many other breeds. Therefore, use a bristle brush for a general combing and an undercoat rake to reduce the rate of shedding. This can be up to 3 times a week.

One of the golden rules in this regard is never shave a golden retriever. No matter how much he may be shedding, shaving is never an option. This is because the breed has a very sensitive skin and is as such highly prone to skin disorders.

Their heavy coat keeps the dog safe from effects of extreme heat and cold. The dog will only experience major shedding twice annually and this is not too much to handle. You may just trim matted hair, as that will not result in any harm.

Bathe him with a good quality shampoo. It is a good idea to ask for advice about this from the family vet because he has more experience than any other person does.

Pay close attention to the eyes and ears, removing all build-up of particles to avoid occurrence of bacteria. Do not use a cold solution for the ear whether for cleaning or for medication purposes. Warm it up just a little to avoid causing extreme discomfort to the canine.

Golden retrievers have a high chance of developing periodontal disease and therefore, you should pay close attention when brushing the teeth. Use a paste that removes plaque and tartar effectively. This can be about 3 times a week and often, a frozen raw bone given to him to supplement this.

Grooming the dog will also call for clipping of nails at least once every week to prevent them from twisting. Do not clip too much though or you may just get to a vessel and cause him more harm than good.

By following these guidelines, you can easily keep your retriever safe from infections and keep the home parasite free. It is also a safeguard for children who keep their close company.

Bathing a golden retriever dog keeps it clean and avoids infections. It should be brushed to remove loose hair, dirt and tangles. It is also disinfected to prevent the infestation of fleas. Bathing of a golden retriever will depend on a number of factors.

First, it depends on the dog and the owner. You as the owner might be available or very busy. It also depends with the behavior of your dog. Some dogs like to play in mud and dirty water. They like to be adventurous and they will get into anything for fun. Some like to roll themselves on dust and some will sniff on every heap of garbage that they come across.

Some dogs are more laid back and they will not get involved in any activity that will cause a stench or dirt on their skin. They like to be near people and rarely go out. It therefore depends on the type of dog you have. The one that likes to play in dirt will definitely require frequent baths. They can be bathed around 4 times in a month especially if they smell.

How often you give your golden retriever a bath will also depend on the skin type of the dog. This means that different dogs have different skin types. Some have dry skins that are almost scaly while others are a bit oily. Dogs with scaly skins should be washed fewer times as more frequent baths will cause the skin to become drier. Those with oily skins can get more frequent washes.

Bathing your dog will also depend on affordability. It is good that you treat a dog at least once in a while to a professional groomer. Professional groomers are equipped with skills and know how to disinfect dogs and give them the best baths with the best products. There is always an assortment of shampoos and conditioners that are used for your golden retriever. If you can afford it, it is recommendable. If you can’t, you can stick to your frequent at home washes.

The number of times you bathe your golden retriever might also depend on the level of general hygiene you want to maintain in your home. Cleanliness of dogs will affect the cleanliness of the other members of the family. Clean people clean dog.

If there are also any special events in the home, you might need to bathe it. There are competitions for dogs that come up in TV shows. If you would like to participate in such events, it is a must you clean your dogs.

Some people use sprays on their golden retrievers to clean it. These may be dangerous as it contains harmful chemicals and may cause diarrhea, seizures and shortened life spans.

Your golden retriever should then be soothed with natural essential oils. They are non allergic and will prevent your dog’s skin from drying out. Some of these oils are lavender, citronella and cedar wood that keeps out bugs and eucalyptus for refreshed feeling.

Food is very important to the life of a living being. Just as you need food to survive and stay healthy, the golden retrievers also need food to survive. The right amount of food will ensure your golden retriever dog remain active and healthy. A hungry dog will be inactive and have a dull coat. The dogs are very friendly and all this disappears when the dogs are hungry. Hungry dogs are prone to diseases and cost you a lot of money on the Vet. The dogs are also prone to a lot of allergies and thus you should feed them properly to keep them in good shape.

Do not overfeed your golden retriever dog as it may gain a lot of weight leading to complications. Puppies should not be separated for their parents, as they need to suckle. This helps to build their immune systems so that they can grow up to be healthy puppies.

Puppies should be fed by their mothers for at least seven weeks. However, you can introduce puppy food when they are around three weeks. This should be soaked to make a warm gruel that is safe for the puppies. You can get ready made puppy food in several per stores.

The puppies first refuse to eat the foods but with time, you will find them wanting more. The puppies learn quickly and they start feeding on their own without any supervision. This makes them not to be dependent on their mums. At this point they can be separated from their mums and introduced to a new environment. Make sure you get food that has the balanced formulation for the dogs to benefit from the nutrients. This causes the retrievers to grow up fast.

Use the same type of food for a while for the dogs to get used to them. This is because the puppies can be sensitive to rapid food changes. When the dogs are grown you can feed them three times a day just like a human being. Dog food comes with instructions on how to prepare the food. It also comes with the appropriate portions that you should give the dog. In between meals, you can give the dog treats like biscuits. This helps them not to feel hungry until the next meal.

Schedule feeding times for the dogs so that they can have regular feeding patterns. Always provide clean, cool and fresh water at all times. Morning meals should be given after the dog has been taken outside to poop and pee. You should also engage the dog in a little play before you feed it.

Place the midday meals between the evening and the morning meals. If you are giving the dog dry food, ensure you give the water warm water for easy digestion. If a dog finishes its food consistently you should add a little more food to ensure your pet is full.

You can also buy chew toys that can keep your dog busy before it waits for the next meal. You should always provide well balanced food for the dogs.

The Golden Retriever is a canine widely renowned for his affection. He has as such become one of America’s most popular pet. This dog is a crossbreed of two European retriever species and has a life expectancy of about 12 years.

However, in some cases, he may not be able to get to his sunset years because of human mistreatment or exposure to extreme conditions. The services of Golden Retriever rescue organizations are provided to prevent such occurrences.

Stray dogs and puppies are the most popular beneficiaries of Golden Retriever rescue group services. For whatever reason they find themselves on the streets, these dogs usually live under less than ideal conditions most of their lives. They have also been unfortunate victims of accidents resulting from careless driving or poor visibility at night many a times.

Instead of letting such dogs be impounded and kept in overcrowded and substandard facilities, they gladly take them in and try to locate foster owners for them. When they first get into the establishment from the streets, they are usually vaccinated and given immediate treatment in case of a medical problem. They are then tagged and they can await adoption in a comfortable and dog-friendly environment.

In other cases, a family that feels it is no longer able to care for their golden retriever may enlist the services of rescue organizations. Such a pet would have to undergo evaluation procedures to ensure that he can fit into the new home. In many cases, dogs with a reputation for aggression fail to qualify for the privilege.

A terminally ill puppy or dog may not be able to get adequate care from home. The owner may in such a case request for the services of the organization so as to ensure he gets proper care and enjoys his final years. The same is true of dogs that are very old. A family may have grown attached to him and cannot bear to see him suffer or even die. All such pets are accepted into the system and given the best treatment to the last day.

Getting a dog for adoption from these homes calls for an examination as well to establish that you are capable of taking good care of him. They take down necessary details about yourself, your pet history and your family vet. After reviewing these details and ascertaining that you are a qualified candidate, they will choose a retriever that seems suitable for you.

It is a risk-free procedure because the organization still keeps touch to ensure that you are comfortable with the adoption and the choice of dog. They will also see to it that the animal is accorded proper treatment and no aspect of the contract is violated.

Dogs on health check and those that are aged are never given out for adoption though as they have a permanent home in the institution.

Many of golden retriever rescue puppies organizations or groups are charitable and they accept both monetary donations and volunteer services from members of the community. They also hold public events for dog owners to meet and have fun as well as learn a few things about the care of dogs.
